Holy Homosexuality Batman

The reading was pretty confusing, however after discussion in class it seems like everyone think the author, Freya Johnson, believe Batman is queer. However, as pointed out by Ellen, Johnson does not think Batman is gay, other then pointing out that there are queerness in the film. Is queer so wrong? I do not think so since queerness is always around us.

I agree with the students in my class when they saw that Dick seeing Bruce in a towel have a different meaning. Why would Dick be in the same restroom as Bruce? Well, it is a big (empty) mansion with so many people going about, it is only normal that Dick would try to find someone to talk to. It would be extremely boring living in a large creepy mansion with only two other living being (not including the dog) aside from yourself. Also since Bruce took Dick in, it is also only normal that Dick is attach to Bruce. About the love scene probably did not show much other then what is needed. When you see two people together in what seem like a "love" scene is there really much details that people need? Half the people already know what is going to happen, do they not?

Not saying that the two does not represent queer qualities, but different people does view things differently. I agree with Johnson when she mention that the bad guys are always seem to be even queerer to distract viewer from seeing the hero as being queer. This case is true, but it is also pretty much stereotyping that if you are queer or gay then you are the bad guy or villain.

I did not overly understand the article. It seems like Johnson is trying to point out too many things and not make enough sense of them all, or it could just be me because again I did not understand her article.
