Society's Need For A Queer Solution

I agree that homosexual are being portrait badly and yes back to what we have study about earlier this semester, stereotyped.

This essay define queer as being a no gender like, but I don't think the society will ever see it in that way. Society is just too rooted to the gender role and everything. I personally have nothing against homosexual, because they're just human like me. In fact out of all humans, I find myself most comfortable with them because they are more to me "normal" and don't try to make me feel different.

I really don't know why everyone makes such a big deal out of this issue, everyone is human right? Just because some one is attracted to their same sex doesn't make them an alien from out of space!

I farther more agree that the media does make a big impact on the way we sees thing. I get really annoy when a certain group of people are portrait wrongly or badly and homosexual are one of those group. I have seen the episode of Friends that the essay mention, about the two lesbian who are trying to rise a kid. The episode annoyed me so much that i rarely watched Friends from that day on. Sure it's fun to laugh at others, but try putting yourself in their shoes. I think Carol and Susan should be ashamed of playing such stupid, inhuman if you can call it that, role.

I love Ellen Degeneres. I think she's just a fun loving person. Just because she "came out" that she was gay meant nothing much to me, because she was still the same person. I think trying to "fix" or "help" homosexual and treating it as a "disease" is wrong. Everyone is human and is entitle to their rights to act as such in the way that they want to. Just because the mass of us are heterosexual means nothing, we can't make a good look bad just because they're a minority group. If homosexual was the mass and heterosexual wasn't, how would we have felt?

I hate to say this but everything from the Bible isn't always worth following. I mean, who wrote the Bible that everyone so reads nowadays? If you ask me, even thought we think we're free from a monarch ruling, we really are not. King James still rules over us with his version of the Bible in which most of us reads.

Bad Family

There is a saying that, "the one you detest the most is the one you’re going to miss the most." In episode eight Dal Gun, the fake uncle and the founder of the stage family, was told by his old boss, who was the leader of the gang debt collectors, to leave Seoul or his friends and family would get hurt. In order to prevent anyone from getting hurt and to escape becoming a debt collector once more, he agreed to leave.

Before Dal Gun left he gave the stage control of the stage family to Gi Dong, who was the fake father. The day that he was going to leave he tried to complement everyone, although they never really got along and he was always threatening to kill them. He also tried to make everything right between him and Yang Ah, who was the fake sister, because it was because of his refusal to destroy the street market that had brought the debt collectors to her home and destroyed it. He repainted her home and fixed everything, which to me is unbelievable for one man to do in less then a day, but then again it is television.

I think that even though the stage family wasn’t really a true family they started to feel that way as time goes by and got used to having everyone around. I thought it was really sad when he was saying goodbye to Na Rim at her school, because at first he had no feeling for her but by making money acting as her fake uncle. I think some how he started to get attached to the little girl because she’s such a sweet child and so vulnerable to the world. He had tears in his eyes and it seems really hard for him to say goodbye to her.

I think a lot of us can relate to this situation. Maybe not demanded to leave our family, but we all do leave them once in a while if not for a trip or for school and we do feel awfully sad. A good example would be a college student who lives on campus. I have a friend who lives on campus and every time she goes back home she never wants to return back to her school campus because she misses her family, especially her sister who she always fights with. She told me that she would cry every time she had to return because it was so hard for her to leave even though she knew she was going to come back home during the summer.

Black Bart

I thought this essay was very interesting. I never really thought of Bart as being a white character or a black character. I've always define him as a cartoon that fits most people. To me Bart had always been a yellow cartoon.

I think I can see why many African American would wears a Black Bart T-shirt. Since Bart pretty much represent a lot of people or the way they feel, I believe to African American Black Bart wasn't just an icon or a symbol of some kind. Black Bart could have been about values. Bart is an "underachiever" how can he be a culture value? I believe it's because many can put themselves in his shoes.

During one of the interview of two girls one the girl say that Bart, although he is suppose to be a white character, acts like a black character. I really disagree with this because I think Bart have a little of all of us in him. I, for one, can say that I swear in public and pulls pranks on people and I am either black or white. To me The Simpson's family will always be a yellow cartoon family.

The Reality TV Suite

After the class discussion a question crept into my mind. Other then going on reality TV to get fame what else motivates people to go on reality TV? For fame there is only a chance of one in a gazillion, so why do people do it? For example, American Idols, many know that there is a slim chance that they will get in. However they take that chance and end up embarrassing themselves and then later on they want to sue the judges or the producer because such and such happens. Don't the people who goes onto reality TV shows know that the show was meant to make a fool of them live on national television?

The article mentions how reality TV chooses their people. Can this article be any true? On American Top Model, I can't help but notice that there is always that bitchy black girl and or a white girl. On the show there is always that nerdy white girl who is EXTREMELY SKINNY (or in another sense . . . anorexia). The show also to make it seem racial always have that Asian girl who have extremely low self-esteem who never wins. Did I forget to mention there is always that black girl who is really at ease and seem to do everything to the judge likings?

What is very interesting to me is...if reality TV are mainly based on voting people off or to keep them in the game, then why does all those American Idols viewer who tuned in and vote...could not make it to the voting pole for the election?

Bad Family

We have all tried to recall something but can not due to memory block or interference. We all know how annoying it get us when we can not remember. Imagine being a child knowing that your memory is block and that you can not remember anything even if you wanted to.
Everyone wants to be respected by the person they like and everyone wants to fit in. Nobody wants to live a life they dislike.
Episode seven revolves around all these thing.

In this episode NaRim finally remember something when there was a power failure. The family then thought that if they react out what had happen they might help her remember. However even thought the "stage" family had only wanted to help, I believe NaRim felt pressured. She would feel depress and cry because everyone seem to be forcing her to remember when she could not.
Every have a time when they could not remember a event even thought it is right on the ends of their finger tips. We all know how stressful it is. How do you think a seven year old would feel?

This episode also introduced GongMin character to us a little more. Before he was just the fake brother found sleeping on the street who works at a salon and was called "master." As it seem he know owns a restaurant in which he and a girl he liked went to dine in. However he kept it a secret from her so that she will like him. What I think about GongMin is that he ran away from home so he wont have to get into business and instead do something he likes...become a hair stylist. However to make the girl he likes like him he took her to a nice fancy restaurant in which he owns. I think he, pretty much, is trying to live a normal teenage life.

Essay & Class

I think overall my essay should be OK. I did not really understand what was excepted of us much, such as how the paper should "be" like. Would be great if we have better examples then just essays from the book. I wrote the essay the way I thought it would suppose to be done so I hope it is right.

The think if we have got all the information on how to write the essay and everything all at once we would have know what is excepted of us. Handing us little bits of information as we process can make us confuse. Not to mention, sometimes making us rewrite our whole entire essay over.

I think working in small groups really help. We are not all great writer so getting some free backs from our peers helps. First I did not really like the idea of working in group. I thought that my group would judge my paper badly and what not so first I was really against it. However it was not so bad and my group was really kind so I think working in small peer editing group is of great help.

I think the class itself is very interesting, not what I thought 1020 is suppose to be like. I like how the class talks everything over, however I think it would be best if you (the instructor starts it off for us instead of just going "so what did you guys think about the reading?" I tend to shut down right when that question comes up. I think we, the students, would probably like it more if we were ask questions about a subjects first then go on from there.

The Messengers

I was going to write more about "Bad Family" but turns out I went to the movie this week and wanted to write about "The Messengers" instead. However I will continue to write more on"Bad Family" in the future.

"The Messengers" first surprised me by being one of the many works done by my favorite horror directors, The Pang Brothers. I've been a great fan of their movie (although I haven't see a lot of them) ever since I saw "The Eye" and whoever haven't seen it I recommend it! Back to "The Messengers" (which I wasn't suppose to see due to religious purpose but went anyway) . . .

"The Messengers" starts off in a black and white scene with this woman and her son who seem extremely frighten. I think the reason for this scene is to confuse the viewer and to make them think of it as a true horror. As for the black and white picture, I suppose there is something that get to us when we hear those haunted music being play and there is no color other then black and white. I think the two colors alone works to make a feeling of fear and also to make viewer know that it was something like a flashback of some sort or something that had already happen.

This movie also involved a lot of crows. As horror lovers we all should know that whenever you see a crow or a black cat in a horror movie it's a sigh that something bad was going to happen. This movie uses extremely large crows. I guess the size of the crows makes a person fears them. I haven't seen a crow for ages now so I can't really say now big they really are, but in the movie they look above average size crows.

I liked how everything was happening but the ending . . . I did NOT like the ending much. To me the ending was stupid, it messed up the whole movie and not to mention made the "horror" movie "un-horror." Why? Well, you should go see for yourself why. The movie to me was very disappointing. Not one of the Pang's best work. It could have been better if the ending was different.

Interchapter: Reading and Writing About Images

Everything around us is a text, or a text is an image, we just sees it differently because of the how we were taught about them. Everything that surrounds us can be read and carries some kind of messages.
Just by looking at an image, a picture, or a setting we read it according to what we know. Every one have a different interpret of meaning of things. For example by looking at the two photos on page 370. The two photos shows two very different neighborhoods. People from the neighborhood pictured in the second photo would not thing too highly of the people living in the first neighborhood. To those people, the people living in the first neighborhood are low income, most likely criminals, who lives in a ghetto. The people who lives in the first neighborhood would think different of themselves and would think the people from the second neighborhood are high-class clean freak suburban-er. Either way both would view each other negatively.
Take Detroit and Warren for example. People in Warren are afraid to enter Detroit because they are afraid that they will get rob at every stop signs or that they will get shot by a drive by. Warren would think that they're the more sociable people because they live in a better neighborhood and knows how to organize everything. Detroit-er however would have a different view. Detroit to them would be home, a place in which they're free to wander in the streets and meets with friends. They would view Warren as a middle-high class people who wakes up every more and function more or less like a robot programed to do daily activities.
The reason why I use this example is because I have been to schools in the suburbs and I always get asked the same question. Do people die in front of your house?

Bad Family

I am really not a TV show fan. No matter how much I try, I just can not force myself to be loyal to a TV program. I have disgraced myself. Not really! ;p
For my television blog I decided to do it on a SBS comedy TV series I just bought, which has eight discs with a total of sixteen episodes. I have just finish watching episode one to six which was hilarious! The series is called "Bul Ryang Ga Jok" (or "Bad Family"), written by Lee Hee-myung and Han Eun-kyung and directed by Yoo In-shik. This series was aired on March 22, 2006 to May 11, 2006 in South Korean.

Here is a synopsis of the series from Fansites Hollywood K-DRAMA:

Cast: Kim Myung-min, Nam Sang-mi, Park Jin-woo, Hyun Young, Kim
Hee-chul
This drama is about a very impaired, abnormal family's with a wide
range of
characters. The thing is, the members of this "family" aren't all
really
related! They are a "staged" family. Oh Dal-geon (Kim Myun-min) who
was being
chased by gangster recruited a bunch of people to be a part of a
family of a
young child named Baek Na-reem (Lee Young-yoo). Na-reem has
amnesia and her real
family died in a car accident. It is to believed that
the "car accident" wasn't
really an accident. To find out the truth,
Dal-geon brings in people to play the
roles of different members of
Na-reem's family to help her regain her memory.
Kim Yang-ah (Nam Sang-mi)
was an orphan at a very young age. She had lost
her family, but plays a role
in this "bad" family. Ha Tae-kyung (Park Jin-woo)
is Yang-ah's boss who
falls for her. see how things heat up as Yang-ah,
Tae-kyung and Dal-geon
into a love triangle and how this family life isn't all
that sweet,
especially when some do not get along with each other!
Episodes: 16
Official Site: SBS
DVD: Not released

While watching the third disc (episodes 5 and 6) I thought to
myself "ANOTHER LOVE TRI-ANGLE!" I am not much of a fan of "love tri-angle" but it seems that all Korean dramas/series have them. What is so unique about that? However the first two discs which focus more on the child, Na-reem, and the
"family" was really interesting. It really made me wonder if many "big people"
like CEOs and the such really go through all these illegal stuffs just to obtain
their "higher" position. How Dal-geon got the "staged" family together was
something else. I could understand him using the people who were indebted to
him, but to pick up a kid who he had found sleeping on the street? He must be
really desperate, which he was.
So we have the daughter-in-law (who lost her only child a long time ago and sells to-go coffee on the street for a living) and the father-in-law (who is a dance instructor) are in a "friendly" relationship (they were already like that before the "family" was formed). The son-in-law (who sent his children to Canada for a better education and his wife [who cheated on him in Canada then later demanded for a divorce] to take care of them and who hasn't seen them for a long time now because he can not afford plane ticket to go visit them so he works as a debt collector to make money to
send to them) is starting to fall for the daughter-in-law (who is the woman that
is giving him so much trouble at work because she will not pay up the loan she
borrowed) and gets very jealous of her "friendly" relationship with the
father-in-law. The mother-in-law (who has an open street restaurant who gives
out free coffee for her customer seems to be "stealing" the daughter-in-law's
customer) and daughter-in-law despise each other (because of the business issue
that usually gets them into fist fights). The uncle (who is the founder of the
"family" and who is an ex-gangster, who is making just about everyone in the
"family" to work for him to pay off their debt to him) and the granddaughter
(who is trying to rise three younger brothers on her own since her parents died
some time ago, and who blames the uncle for burning down her boat in which she
made her living out of) are starting to fall for each other. The grandson...the
grandson (who is known as "yellow hair") is a total stranger. There was a part
in which some people were calling him "master," but he works at a hair salon?
Did you get all of that?
So far the series is getting really exciting and hilarious! Can't wait to watch more of it next week and find out what happens!

*i'm having a little trouble with blogger today* ><
